CAIRN TERRIER

GROUP:  TERRIER DOGS

An active, game, hardy, small working terrier of short-legged class.  Males, 10 inches, 14 pounds; Females, 9 1/2 inches, 13 pounds.  No two Cairns are truly alike:  each has distinct personality.  As a rule, though, Cairns are somewhat independent.  Their intelligence makes them curious and extremely quick to learn.  They are surprisingly sensitive, and harsh punishment is not necessary or desirable.  Cairns seem to have an inborn affinity for children.  Cairns are not suited to living outside.  They are far more rewarding pets when they live in close contact with their family.
