Ft. Myers Beach is governed by the City and has changed the rules to allow Leashed Pets on the beach even though they haven't changed the signs and probably won't. On the other hand Lee County owns the beach accesses and County Parks which still Do Not Allow Pets. "Pets are allowed on the beach but not on the beach accesses...you figure it out!" Numerous people bring their leashed and well behaved pooches out in the early evening while enjoying the sunset.

On Sanibel and Captiva's beaches, pets are welcome as long as they are leashed (8' maximum leash) and picked up after.

Most of these dining establishments do not serve the food outdoors, it is always best when bringing along "Fido", to have someone else along who can go in, order the food and carry it outdoors for dining. We do not recommend tying up your pet(s) due to the fact there are few places secure enough and this limits your ability to keep an eye on them.

In Downtown Naples along 5th Avenue & 3rd Street there are a variety of restaurants with outdoor dining, that do serve the food outside and will allow well-behaved leashed pets to sit at your side or if small, in your lap.

Sanibel & Captiva Island Beaches
On these beaches pets are welcome as long as they are leashed (max. 8' leash) and picked up after.

Ft. Myers Beach
This beach is controlled by the city and has changed the rules to allow pets as long as they are leashed and picked up after. The signs still say "No Dogs", though some of them have been blacked out.

Well behaved pets are permitted in certain areas (NOT on beach or concession area) and must be kept on a maximum six-foot, hand-held leash at all times. A Lee County Facility that is in its 1 year trail period. Opened as an off-leash park on June 12, 2001, it will stay open at the end of the trial if everyone follows all the rules and only brings their well behaved dogs. This is such a wonderful area for your pets to romp & play with the other dogs and enjoy swimming if they love the water. NOTE: At high tide Dog Beach goes underwater. Maximum 2 Dogs per Individual Over 15 yrs old - MUST Have Collar with Rabies Tag - MUST Pick Up After Your Pet (bags available) - Other Rules Apply (read sign at entrance)

We have visited many of the stores and gift shops in Downtown Naples along 5th Avenue & 3rd Street with "Delta". She is small and is ALWAYS carried when in any store, making it possible for us to bring her along. With large dogs that can't be carried, someone would need to wait with them outside.
