The Shiba is a small breed dog.  He is well balanced, well boned with muscles developed.  His moderately compact and well furred body suggests his northern heritage.  The Shiba's expression is alert and invites activity.  In temperament, inquisitive, good natured, bright, active and slightly aloof at first introduction.  Possesses a strong hunting instinct.  Males, 14 1/2 to 16 1/2 inches; Females, 13 1/2 to 15 1/2 inches.
